01 / What Is Baptism?

An outward symbol of the inward transformation Jesus has already done in you.

Baptism is something God has called us to do after inviting Jesus into our lives. It doesn’t make you a Christian. It announces that you already are one.

We believe the Bible commands every believer in Christ to be baptized as an outward proclamation and symbol of the inward transformation that has already taken place.

If you have surrendered your life to Jesus but have not yet been baptized, we would love to celebrate that step with you at our next Baptism Sunday.

“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”

Romans 6:4

02 / What It Means

What it is.What it isn’t.

+Baptism is

01

A public declaration

It’s a statement that you have trusted in Jesus for salvation, forgiveness, and eternal life.

02

An act of obedience

Jesus commands us to make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

03

A picture of the gospel

Baptism shows the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, which means we are a new creation in Christ.

04

A party in heaven and on earth

Heaven parties over every single changed life. So our baptisms are always a party.

–Baptism isn’t

01

What saves you

Baptism points to what Jesus already did for us by grace and what we couldn’t do for ourselves.

02

A private moment

Our faith is personal, but it is never meant to be private. Invite all your friends and family for this!

03

A finish line

You don’t have to have it all figured out. Baptism is a first step for new believers.

04

Something to put off

Don’t wait for the “perfect” moment. In the New Testament, people got baptized when they believed.

04 / Common Questions

FAQs

Still have questions? We would love to talk them through with you.

01Do I have to be baptized to be saved?+

No. Salvation is a gift of God’s grace that we receive through faith in Jesus. Baptism is how we respond in obedience and go public with the faith we already have.

02I was baptized as a baby. Should I be baptized again?+

Infant baptism was a decision your family made for you. Believer’s baptism is your own response after you have trusted Jesus. If you weren’t baptized after putting your faith in Him, we would encourage you to take this step.

03How much do I need to know to be baptized?+

You don’t need to have every answer. If you understand that you are a sinner, that Jesus died and rose again for you, and you have trusted Him as your Lord and Savior, you are ready.

04Can my child be baptized?+

We love seeing kids take this step. If your child is asking about baptism, reach out and we’ll set up a time to talk with you and your child together. We also have a baptism resource for parents that you can walk through together with your child to see if they are ready. You can get this resource from CBC Kids.

05What should I wear and bring?+

We will give you a baptism T-shirt when you arrive. Wear your normal clothes to church and bring clothes you don’t mind getting wet (dark colors work best) as well as a towel.

06Can my family and friends come?+

Absolutely. Baptism is a celebration, and we want the people who matter most to you there to see it.
